this is because in GCSE BIOLOGY edexcel 360 science it says that when the chromosomes pairs separate and have either male or female chromosomes then splits again the identical arms would have separated wouldn’t that make the first and second daughter nuclei be the same and 3rd and 4th be the same?
Imagine you have a diploid cell that has only one unique chromosome (for a total of two chromosomes). The homologs, or those chromosomes that are similar, will contain many genes with differing alleles. Let’s make it simple and say that our chromosome has only one gene, and that our cell is heterozygous for the alleles on that gene (A/a). After S phase, our cell will be of the genotype AA/aa. Assuming these alleles sort independently (which they should, since they’re on different chromosomes), we’ll have two cells that are either A/A, A/a, or a/a. After meiosis II, we’ll have four daughter cells, half of which will be A and half a. In this sense, they are identical. When you add another gene into the mix, however, things get a little more complicated. If our parent cell gets another chromosome, and is heterozygous for a B allele on that chromosome, then its genotype after S phase will be AA/aa;BB/bb. After meiosis I, we’ll have two cells of type A/A;B/B, A/a;B/B, a/a;B/B, A/A;B/b, A/a;B/b, a/a;B/b; A/A;b/b, A/a;b/b, or a/a;b/b. Meiosis II will produce gametes of type A;B, A;b, a;B, and a;b, which are clearly not identical. This doesn’t take into account the occurrence of crossing over either, which is when homologous chromosomes intertwine and exchange genetic information, which can create a nearly infinite number of unique gametes.
