was this more cancer?
I read mom’s surgical pathology report some more and it said that they took out an ulcerated lesion measuring 2.7x 1.0 cm from the underside of the right portion of the tongue along with a 1×1 cm yellow-tan plaque lesion as well. could this plaque lesion been more cancer? or could it have been precancerous changes in that particular section of the tongue?
brandon- The “ulcerated lesion” likely is recently destroyed tissue. It may have resulted from the radiation destruction of tumor and some adjacent non-cancerous tissue at the margins. The one cm yellow-tan plaque is likely a “scab” or covering of dead tissue and inflammatory cells which the body produced to cover the wound of the underlying ulcerated tissue. Any just precancerous tissue would have been alive (viable) and more flesh-colored. Except for normal body fat, “yellow” is a tissue color most associated with pus cells (inflammatory white blood cell reaction) in a hardened matrix of serum.
